Tier 1 Exceptional talent is now open
The Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) category of the UK's points-based system is now open for applications.
The new category is for people who are internationally recognised as world-leading or potential world-leading talent in the fields of science and the arts.
Applications under Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) must be made from abroad. You cannot apply if you are already in the UK.
Do you need to apply under Tier 1 (Exceptional talent)?
Tier 1 (Exceptional talent) is part of our points-based system, which is for migrants from outside Europe. You do not need to apply under the points-based system if:
- you are a national of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland;
- you are a British overseas territories citizen, unless you are from one of the sovereign base areas in Cyprus;
- you are a Commonwealth citizen with permission to enter or stay in the UK because at least one of your grandparents was born here; or
- you have no conditions or time limit attached to your stay.
